Schoolchildren Unite to Support Ukraine’s Defenders
In a heartwarming demonstration of solidarity and community spirit, schoolchildren in Lviv have raised an extraordinary amount of nearly 2 million hryvnias to support Ukraine’s defenders. This remarkable achievement was made possible through a series of vibrant charity fairs held across ten educational institutions in the city. Lviv’s Mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, shared this uplifting news, highlighting the creativity and commitment of the students, teachers, and parents involved.
“The event was a beautiful testament to our community’s resilience. Students baked delicious cookies, mixed up refreshing lemonade, painted colorful Easter eggs, and together, they collected a significant sum in just half a day. This money will provide much-needed support to our brave defenders,” Mayor Sadovyi remarked.

The Power of Community Engagement
This initiative isn’t just about fundraising; it’s a powerful example of how communities can come together to support a common cause. But what inspired these young students to contribute? Engaging in charitable activities fosters not only empathy but also a sense of responsibility and community awareness among children. According to research, participating in community service can significantly enhance children’s social skills and emotional well-being.
For instance, a study conducted by the Corporation for National and Community Service found that young people who participate in service activities are more likely to show higher levels of academic engagement and overall well-being. This is a reminder that acts of kindness can have a ripple effect, cultivating an environment where everyone feels connected and empowered to contribute.
Unique Ways to Make a Difference

- Host a talent show: Encourage kids to showcase their skills and charge an entry fee, donating the proceeds to a charitable cause.
- Organize a read-a-thon: Set reading goals and collect sponsorships. This not only promotes literacy but also raises funds for those in need.
- Art for charity: Host an art exhibition where children’s artwork can be sold, with funds going directly to support local initiatives.
- Community clean-up: Partner with local businesses for a cleanup event, asking for donations in exchange for the community service rendered.
