Water level in the Dnipro under control: no danger, says Kyiv City State Administration

The water level in the Dnipro, Desna, and Prypiat rivers has risen due to the snowmelt and rain flood, leading to the announcement of a yellow level of danger for the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. However, the Kyiv City Administration management claims that there is no threat and they are ready to handle the upcoming floodwater through the Dnipro reservoir cascade.

Current Situation

As of March 1, the water level in the Dnipro near the «Metro» bridge has risen by 6 cm per day and currently stands at 567 cm above the «0» level. Despite the increase in water level, no danger has been identified yet, and no incidents of flooding have been reported.

Preparedness

«At the moment, water level monitoring is ongoing, and despite possible sharp fluctuations in the coming days, we are prepared for any possible situations,» said the head of the Kyiv City Administration, Serhiy Popko.

Forecast

According to the Ukrgidromettsent, significant fluctuations in water levels within Kyiv are possible from March 1 to March 5, with short-term flooding in floodplains and riverside areas.
