The Vatican has officially recognized as a fake the well-known statue of the Virgin Mary from Trevignano Romano, which, according to its owner Maria Giuseppa Scarpulli, known as Gisella Cardia, was said to cry tears of blood and perform extraordinary phenomena.
Representatives of the Catholic Church have established that the statue’s tears of blood were actually pig blood, which was allegedly applied by Gisella Cardia herself, MailOnline reports.
Her claims of miraculous occurrences led to widespread discussions and gathered hundreds of pilgrims who gathered each month to see the statue and confess before it.
Gisella Cardia claimed that the statue had been crying bloody tears since 2016 and was giving her private revelations. She also spoke of supernatural phenomena, including an incident with endless portions of food and predicting the Covid pandemic.
However, last year, local residents of Trevignano Romano, who were skeptical of the «bleeding Madonna,» hired a private detective who met with the Italian military police. They presented evidence that the red liquid flowing from the statue’s eyes was pig blood.
Now the Vatican has definitively recognized these «supernatural phenomena» as false, supported by the authority of the diocese of Civita Castellana, which conducted the investigation.
The Catholic Church has called for the restoration of peace and tranquility, relying on the spiritual well-being of the faithful of the Trevignano Romano parish and the entire diocese.
The Dicastery, formerly known as the Holy Office, has also officially banned priests from performing rituals or conducting religious acts related to these events in Trevignano Romano.
The ban applies to all religious events organized by the Association Madonna di Trevignano ETS, led by Gianni Cardia, the husband of the «seer» Gisella Cardia.
