Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University, specializing in Ukraine, Russia, and former Soviet countries, Alexander Motyl, in an interview with Radio NV, expressed his forecast regarding the possibility of the US allowing Ukraine to use its missiles against Moscow.
«Most likely, Americans will not agree to Ukraine using American missiles against Moscow, against the Kremlin, as this would be a very serious escalation,» Motyl noted.
On May 31, The New York Times reported, citing unnamed White House officials, that US President Joe Biden, under pressure from his advisers and key allies, allowed Ukraine to strike limited blows on Russian territory with American weapons. On the same day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed this decision, adding that it would allow Ukraine to defend not only Kharkiv from Russian attacks, but also other Ukrainian regions.
US National Security Council spokesperson Michael Carpenter, in a comment to Voice of America, stated that the US allowed Ukraine to strike Russian territory to defend Kharkiv and other Ukrainian regions.
