Ukrainian athletes shine at Balkan Countries Championship in Izmir

The 77th Balkan Athletics Championships in Izmir, Turkey

The 77th Balkan Athletics Championships kicked off today in Izmir, Turkey, with Ukraine showcasing its talent through 43 participating athletes. The first day of competition brought great success to our team, with a total of seven medals already secured.

In the women’s 400 meters race, Mar’yana Shostak claimed gold with an impressive time of 52.73 seconds, leaving behind Tetiana Melnyk, who finished in 53.17 seconds. Olha Lyakhova also seized victory in the 800 meters race with a season’s best time of 2:01.11, while Vladyslav Lavs’kyi soared to win the high jump event at 2.23 meters. Dmytro Nikolaychuk took home silver in the 1500 meters race with a time of 3:44.41, and Artem Levchenko secured bronze in shot put with a throw of 19.67 meters.

On the women’s side, the 4×100 relay team clinched the bronze with a finishing time of 45.24 seconds. Additionally, notable performances were delivered by Nataliia Pyrozhenko-Chornomaz in the 400 meters hurdles, Rostyslav Holubovych in the 400 meters, Dmytro Yanchyk and Andrii Vasilyev in the 100 meters, and Hlib Piskunov in the hammer throw.
