Ukraine Considers Introducing Tax on Carbonated Beverages

Carbonated Beverages Tax Proposal

Next year, a tax on carbonated beverages may be introduced, supported by the financial committee of the Verkhovna Rada. MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak reported this development in his Telegram channel.

What Beverages Will Be Taxed?

According to the bill, the proposed tax will apply to sweet carbonated beverages, including mineral and carbonated drinks with added sugar or other sweetening/flavoring substances. These beverages are classified as excisable goods.

Tax Rate

The tax rate will be 0.1 euros per 1 liter of beverage, equivalent to approximately 4.5 UAH per bottle. This proposal was supported by 16 deputies. Similar taxes are already in place in over 50 countries worldwide.
