This phenomenon is related to the change in the lighting of the environment, which in turn affects the production of melatonin — the hormone that regulates sleep. Martin Silly, a sleep expert and CEO of MattressNextDay, discussed the reasons for more intense dreams in the spring period. Research shows that the time spent sleeping in spring can decrease by 25 minutes, despite the fact that we go to bed only slightly earlier than in winter. This is due to the increase in daylight, which suppresses the production of melatonin. A reduced amount of this hormone in the body leads to more fragmented sleep and, consequently, to more vivid dreams.
