IMF Executive Board declares Kristalina Georgieva the Sole Candidate for IMF Chief Position
According to the statement of the Executive Board of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, the current Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is the sole candidate for the position of IMF Chief for the next term.
Process of Selecting New IMF Chief Underway
After the deadline for candidates for the position of the next Managing Director, which took place on April 3, 2024, the IMF Executive Board announced that only one candidate, Kristalina Georgieva, had been nominated.
Completion Expected by End of April
The IMF emphasized that the Executive Board will act in accordance with the established procedures and hopes to complete the process of selecting a new IMF Chief by the end of April 2024.
Kristalina Georgieva’s Extensive Experience
Georgieva, who is the second woman to head the IMF and the first person from a developing market economy country, has extensive experience in management and economic consulting. She has actively worked to support Ukraine during its war with Russia, as well as to strengthen economic resilience and modernize IMF quotas.
