Increase in cash circulation in Ukraine: Latest data as of April 1, 2024

Current Cash Circulation in Ukraine

As of April 1, 2024, the cash circulation in Ukraine reached 780.3 billion hryvnias, showing an increase of 16 billion hryvnias or 2.1% since the beginning of the year.

Breakdown of Cash Circulation

According to the NBU press service, there are 2.7 billion banknotes in circulation totaling 773.2 billion hryvnias, as well as 14.6 billion coins totaling 7 billion hryvnias.

Cash Distribution per Capita

On April 1, 2024, there were 66 banknotes and 179 payment and circulation coins per capita in Ukraine.

Most and Least Common Denominations

The most common banknotes in circulation are the 500 hryvnias notes, and the most common coins are the 10 kopecks, accounting for 28.3% and 28.1% of the total circulation, respectively. On the contrary, the least common banknotes are the 50 hryvnias notes, and the least common coins are the 10 hryvnias, making up only 4.6% and 1.5% of the total circulation, respectively.

Growth Rate

The banknotes with a denomination of 1,000 hryvnias and coins with a denomination of 10 hryvnias experienced the highest growth rate in the first quarter of 2024, with their circulation increasing by 10% compared to the beginning of the year.
