German and Ukrainian Defense Ministers Meet in Odesa
Defense ministers of Germany and Ukraine, Boris Pistorius and Rustem Umerov, met in Odesa to discuss the situation on the front lines and cooperation in strengthening Ukraine’s defense positions.
The German Minister of Defense emphasized that Germany remains committed to supporting Ukraine and announced a new military assistance package of 500 million euros. The package will include missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems, artillery systems, spare parts for Leopard tanks, including engines, and sniper rifles.
«We highly appreciate Germany’s initiative and their call for other partners to support the Ukrainian air defense system. This is our priority today — we need more air defense systems, missiles, and spare parts to stop Russian terror against our cities and villages. I am confident that together we can stop Russian aggression!» emphasized Rustem Umerov.
According to Pistorius, the supplied IRIS-T anti-aircraft missiles will have medium and short-range capabilities — SLM and SLS. In addition, Germany will provide Ukraine with drones for reconnaissance and combat in the Black Sea, a million rounds of ammunition, additional infantry fighting vehicles Marder, combat armored vehicles, anti-tank guns, and equipment for electronic warfare control and monitoring.
