EU Adopts New Fertilizer Labeling Rules: Introduction of Digital Technologies

EU Parliament Adopts New Rules for Fertilizer Labeling

On Monday, July 22, the EU Parliament adopted new rules regarding the labeling of fertilizers, which will include digital technologies. In addition to traditional physical labeling, digital labels in the form of barcodes or QR codes will now be introduced. This innovation aims to improve the readability of labels and simplify procedures.

The new rules update existing fertilizer labeling standards in the EU, promoting the use of digital labels that will direct the user to a website with necessary information in case of changes. This will reduce costs for labeling, bureaucracy, and environmental impact. However, physical labels will still be used, especially where not all consumers have access to digital technologies.

The new rules will come into effect three days after publication in the Official Journal of the EU, and digital labels will remain valid for at least 10 years after the product enters the market.
