Social laundry in the Korabelny district
Social laundry in the Korabelny district has started its work, however, some residents have faced difficulties. One of them shared his impressions from a visit to the social protection center, where he intended to use the laundry. His conversation with a social worker named Shkurenko became a rather unpleasant experience.
Unpleasant Experience
«When I started to say that I would complain and demand to speak with their management, the social worker named Shkurenko replied that she would not provide any contacts, but I could come back tomorrow because today they are changing the external glass on the window. What does that have to do with the laundry if they are changing the storefront?? Later, she asked what exactly I wanted to wash. And upon hearing that my jacket, pants, and thermal shirt were dirty, she stated that they cannot wash outerwear at all. You know, I can wash my underwear in a bucket at home. I came here for help – and then this… She raised her voice at me, like I was bothering her with my problems. She is not in the right position as a worker! Can people be spoken to like that, especially when they are supposed to support the population, not the other way around,» the man noted.
Director’s Response
Sergiy Bondarenko, the director of the city social services center, explained that anyone willing to can use the laundry by agreement with the Charity Foundation, which created the laundry. However, there are still some restrictions in place.
«That man just wanted to wash a shirt – and that’s not allowed. Ordinary jackets and pants are allowed, let him come back tomorrow, he will be able to wash those,» Bondarenko said.
Problem-Solving
Anatoliy I. was able to obtain confirmation from the Charity Foundation’s hotline that all residents can use the social laundry, and also learned that thermal shirts can be washed. Therefore, the pensioner decided to go back to the social protection center, intending to join in the process of problem-solving and to document the communication style of the worker with citizens.
