Constitutional Court of Ukraine Became Independent From Political Influence Due to Reforms

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine: Independence from Political Influence

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine, thanks to the reforms carried out by the Verkhovna Rada, has been stripped of any political influence, emphasized the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk. This was reported by Ukrinform, citing Stefanchuk’s Facebook page, during an international conference marking the 28th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine.

Stefanchuk took part in the conference organized by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in collaboration with international partners, which brought together scholars and practitioners to discuss the theme «The Constitution of Ukraine and European values: challenges of the European integration process.»

In his speech, Stefanchuk stressed the importance of opening negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the role of the Verkhovna Rada in this process. He noted that the parliament reformed the Constitutional Court by introducing a competitive selection of judges, ensuring the independence of the court from political influence.

According to Stefanchuk, «The Constitutional Court is becoming a court deprived of any political influence. This is an irreversible process.»
