China initiates anti-dumping investigation into pork imports from the EU

China Launches Anti-Dumping Investigation on EU Pork Imports

According to a Reuters report, China has initiated a year-long investigation into anti-dumping measures regarding the import of pork and its by-products from European Union countries. The main targets of the investigation include Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark.

The trade investigation is aimed at assessing possible dumping in regards to pork, including fresh, chilled, and frozen whole cuts, as well as pancreas, bladder, and stomach. According to Chinese customs, in 2023 China imported pork worth 6 billion dollars, more than half of which came from the EU.

«If after the investigation it is determined that there is dumping that harms domestic industry, temporary anti-dumping measures may be taken,» said China’s Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yadun.

A previous trade conflict between China and the EU started after the EU imposed anti-subsidy duties on Chinese-made electric cars. China responded with anti-dumping measures and also threatened retaliation against prominent European sectors, including agriculture and aircraft manufacturing.
