Belgian authorities are planning to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine as early as 2024, with the exact timeline still to be determined, according to BRF.
Key Points:
Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder made the announcement at a joint press conference, stating their intention to deliver the aircraft to Ukraine as quickly as possible.
Dedonder assured that the transfer of the fighters will not compromise Belgium’s defense capabilities.
The cost of the project will be covered by revenue from frozen Russian assets, not Belgian tax money.
F-16s from Belgium:
Defense Minister Dedonder previously confirmed plans to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukrainian pilots in 2025 without specifying the number of aircraft.
Earlier this year, reports indicated that two two-seater F-16s would be sent to Denmark for training Ukrainian pilots.
In March, Belgium allocated 100 million euros for the maintenance of F-16s, which Ukraine is expected to receive in 2024 from allies.
