Poland urges EU to counter Russian disinformation ahead of US elections

Before the pre-election period in the United States, Warsaw emphasizes the need to strengthen the fight against possible disinformation from Russia and its influence on American society, as well as highlights Europe’s position on collective security. Poland calls on the European Union to initiate a campaign in the US that will emphasize the importance of close cooperation. This was reported by Reuters.

«At this critical moment in history, it is extremely important to jointly strengthen transatlantic relations through strategic communications in the US regarding the EU,» the document prepared for the meeting of EU foreign ministers states.

Before the US presidential elections, measures such as «expanding the scope of exposure of Russian disinformation» and launching campaigns that clarify the current situation in Europe, the benefits of diplomacy, collective security, and an open society are particularly important.

«We must remind the American public, especially the young generation, of the achievements that our partnership, which has lasted for decades, has brought to the US economy,» the document authors add.

Poland emphasizes that it has become the target of numerous attempts by Russia to destabilize the situation and interfere in elections through its support of Ukraine in military aid, reflecting Russian military intervention.

«We should expect even more attempts, as weakening support for Ukraine remains a priority for Russia,» the document organizers emphasize.

Furthermore, the Polish document notes that Russian state media and Kremlin-affiliated online platforms actively spread disinformation about immigration in the US and the security of their borders, distort the impact of immigration processes, and publish stories about crimes committed by migrants.

It is worth remembering that recently, hackers using a Russian bot hacked several Ukrainian Telegram channels.
