Twitter user under the pseudonym IfeelNothing revealed an interesting feature of the new CMF Phone 1 smartphone from Nothing: its camera can «see through» objects. For example, the owner was able to see batteries through the black plastic cover of a TV remote.
It turned out that the 2 MP auxiliary camera, intended for the portrait shooting depth sensor, can capture monochrome images without an infrared light filter. This allows the camera to collect more light and «look inside» various objects. Akis Evangelidis, a representative of Nothing, emphasized that the depth sensor does not have an IR light filter, which increases its sensitivity. However, access to this limited-function camera is only available to developers with root rights, and the company plans to close this access for third-party applications for security reasons.
This situation is reminiscent of a similar case in 2020 with the OnePlus 8 Pro, which also had a similar auxiliary camera function. This mistake was later corrected.
