Issues with radiation monitoring near Zaporizhzhia NPP: only four out of 14 stations are operational

Ukraine’s Nuclear Monitoring Capabilities Decrease, According to Inspectorate Head

Head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate Oleg Korikov recently announced that Ukraine’s ability to monitor radiation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has significantly decreased. Speaking on the channel «My Ukraine», Korikov stated that out of the 14 radiation stations located near the plant, only four are currently operational.

«We have sensors deployed in Ukraine that provide real-time information, but the monitoring system is not fully operational. This makes it challenging to obtain accurate data about the radiation levels at the plant and its surroundings,» explained Korikov.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP, which has been captured by Russian forces, has been turned into a military base where Chechen militants are stationed. This further complicates the situation and raises concerns about the safety and security of the facility.
