OpenAI Expands Board of Directors with Addition of Former NSA Director

OpenAI Welcomes Retired U.S. Army General Paul M. Nakasone to Board of Directors

OpenAI has announced the addition of a new member to its board of directors: Paul M. Nakasone, a retired U.S. Army general and former director of the National Security Agency. Nakasone, who served as the longest-serving leader of the U.S. Cyber Command and head of the Central Security Service, brings a wealth of experience in cybersecurity to the organization.

«Mr. Nakasone will also contribute his insights to OpenAI’s efforts to better understand how artificial intelligence can be used to enhance cybersecurity by quickly identifying and responding to cyber threats,» OpenAI stated in its blog post.

In addition to joining the board of directors, Nakasone will also be part of the newly formed OpenAI Security and Safety Committee. The Committee will assess the company’s security processes and measures for 90 days before making recommendations to the board of directors and updating the general public, OpenAI reported.

Nakasone joins current board members Adam D’Angelo, Larry Summers, Bret Taylor, and Sam Altman. He also joins new board members announced in March: Dr. Sue Desmond-Hellmann, Nicole Seligman, and Fidji Simo.
