The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Adopts Bill to Reduce Workload for University Professors
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted bill No. 9600 aimed at reducing the burden on university professors. The goal of the legislative initiative is to provide more time for scholars for scientific research, development, innovation, and professional growth.
Vice Prime Minister — Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov reported this in his Telegram channel.
According to the new regulations, the teaching workload for university professors in giving lectures, seminars, and consultations will be reduced from 600 to 400-500 hours per year. At the same time, a minimum of 30% of working time should be devoted to scientific work.
The bill also provides for the introduction of a flexible system of incentives and rewards for professors based on their actual effective scientific activities. This will help avoid situations where publications are merely a formality.
