Effectiveness of American Weapons in Ukraine
According to confidential reports from Ukrainian commanders, the high-precision American weaponry, such as the Himars system, has proven to be ineffective on the front lines due to the adaptation of Russian forces. As reported by The New York Times, the use of American projectiles Excalibur and GLSDB has also suffered a decrease in effectiveness due to the electronic warfare of Russian systems, which leads to the jamming of the GPS signal necessary for targeting Excalibur.
Challenges with Electronic Warfare
Thomas Whitington explained that electronic warfare systems create so many obstacles that they block the GPS signal necessary for the operation of Excalibur. Experts believe that the most effective countermeasure against such jamming is to remove the source of interference. Ukrainian military officials corroborate these reports and point to similar issues with other weapons that utilize GPS, such as Jdam and Himars.
Dependency on GPS Signal
The American High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (Himars) and other weapons require continuous access to the GPS signal for effective operation on the battlefield.
