Rare predator discovered in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone

A rare predator — a marten — was spotted in the territory of the Chernobyl Reserve.

This was reported by the reserve’s press service, capturing the animal on the outskirts of the village of Novosilka.

Martens, belonging to the weasel family, are known for their maneuverability and high speed.

They actively hunt rodents and birds, making them important links in the ecosystem.

«The marten is a wonderful example of adaptation to forest conditions.

It also reminds us of the importance of preserving natural conditions for local species,» emphasized the reserve.

Martens’ tracks have been observed in the reserve before, and recently the predator was spotted once again.
