Residents of Pervomaisk Vote to Change City Name to Zlatopol
Residents of Pervomaisk have decided to change the name of their city to Zlatopol. This was announced by the mayor of Pervomaisk, Mykola Baksheev.
At a meeting of the toponymic commission in the local council, the results of the vote on renaming were summed up. The procedure lasted 10 days and took place both online and at the CNAP, where volunteers helped residents vote on the electronic platform. Tents were also set up in communities for the convenience of voters.
A total of 911 people took part in the vote, with the result being the selection of the new name Zlatopol, which received the most votes.
The voting results are as follows:
- Zlatopol — 425 votes
- Zvitazhin — 259 votes
- Yangoliv — 227 votes
The toponymic commission will draw up a protocol and submit it to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for further consideration and decision-making on the renaming.
The process of changing the name of Pervomaisk has been ongoing since the beginning of 2023. Earlier, the community held a vote in which the name Dobrodar emerged victorious. However, at the sessions of the city council, the decision to rename did not gain the necessary number of votes from deputies. Pervomaisk is a city in the Lozivsky district of the Kharkiv region. Before the war, there were about 28,500 people living here. The city was founded in 1869 as the railway station Alekseevka, later Likhachevo, and in 1952 it was renamed to Pervomaisk. In 1991, it received city status and has retained it ever since.
