Russian spy disguised as Ukrainian military instructor sentenced to 15 years in prison
A Russian spy who was spying on Ukrainian military training grounds in the Mykolaiv region disguised as an instructor has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. This was reported by the SBU press service on Friday, March 1.
It is noted that the tactical training instructor of a local public organization, under the guise of training on the training grounds, was surveying the locations of personnel, military equipment, and warehouses of ammunition of the defense forces, and passing the collected data to Russian special services. In addition, he attempted to «communicate» with Ukrainian defenders whom he met during field training.
SBU counterintelligence officers arrested him red-handed a year ago — in February 2023. «As the investigation revealed, the enemy collaborator was in contact with pro-Kremlin blogger Sergei Lebedev (known by the pseudonym «Shaggy»), who is hiding in Donetsk and working for the FSB. He reached out to him on his own initiative through a popular messenger app and offered his assistance in the war against Ukraine,» the statement said.
The court found the man guilty of state treason committed in a state of war, as well as of storing ammunition without the required legal permission.
