Odesa Mayor’s Financial Status: City Head Gennadiy Trukhanov Received 11 Million Hryvnias from Stepfather

Mayor of Odessa under scrutiny for significant monetary gift

According to the declaration for 2021 and 2022, published on the website of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention, the mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, received a significant monetary gift from his stepfather — 11 million hryvnias.

Family income and assets revealed in declarations

The 2021 declaration reflects Trukhanov’s income, amounting to almost 278 thousand hryvnias per year. The family income also includes a pension for his mother in the amount of 34 thousand hryvnias, as well as a pension for the stepfather and income from the mother’s securities, totaling over a million hryvnias.

Despite the relatively low pension amount, Trukhanov’s mother has significant amounts of cash at her disposal — over a million hryvnias and 658 thousand dollars. In addition, she has 20 thousand hryvnias, 44 thousand dollars, and 16 thousand euros in bank accounts.

Additionally, according to the 2022 declaration, Gennadiy Trukhanov stated that he borrowed 200 thousand dollars from his mother. The mayor of Odessa’s total cash assets increased to 355 thousand hryvnias and 180 thousand dollars. He also has 418 thousand hryvnias in his bank accounts.

Maria Trukhanova, in turn, has cash assets amounting to 502 thousand dollars and 846 thousand hryvnias, as well as an additional 29 thousand hryvnias and 16 thousand euros in bank accounts.

Legal scrutiny on mayor’s declarations and property

It became known that in 2019, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office initiated criminal proceedings against Gennadiy Trukhanov for not declaring the property and income of his civil wife. However, the mayor’s declaration also lacks information about real estate and other assets, including those amounting to 32 million hryvnias.
